Gaining Audio Permission

Audio Permission:

It was imperative when choosing a song for our music video that we gained permission from the artist to use their track; this is due to copyright laws, which exist in order to allow the creator of a form of original work to have exclusive rights to its distribution as a method of preventing fraud or plagiarism. If you use copyrighted material you may be penalised for plagiarism and therefore have to pay a fee to the owner of the material.

In the pre-production phase, we emailed the artists and their management asking for permission for a 'fair use agreement' whereby we could utilise their song for the purpose of creating a non-profit music video. (Fair use states that the video cannot be monetized) The utilisation of cross-media convergence through our email correspondence with the band was highly lucrative, as it meant that we could easily and quickly communicate with them to ask for permission and we could keep the emails as an evidenced document of our permission to use the track.
